Electric Field due to a Hollow Cylinder of Charge

Electric Field due to a Hollow Cylinder of Charge

(a) Inside the cylinder (radial distance < R) :

When we draw a Gaussian cylinder of radius r, we find that the charge enclosed by it is zero.

This is possible if E = 0

(b) Outside the cylinder (radial distance > R) :

( qenc = λl)

Variation of E with r is also shown graphically here.
